I Wanna See the Mountains in Your Eyes

Hello lovelies! I actually slept last night for a solid nine hours! Hip hip hoooooray!

I am planning on heading up to Montana with my mom and Tyson this summer right after I get back from Brazil.  My brother, mom and I used to go up to visit our family in Missoula and on the Flathead Indian Reservation every summer for a month.  I started to go less frequently when I got to high school and wanted to stay in California to hang out with friends and go to music festivals all summer.  It has been way too long since I have been up there and seen my family!  So many of my cousins have kids that have grown up so much since the last time I saw them and I am really excited to see how much they've changed!

I consider Montana my first home.  It is where I was born and where I went to elementary school until third grade.  Something in my soul feels at home there.  Whenever I go I press a reset button and I leave feeling focused, peaceful, and happy.  It is really important to me that Tyson gets to see that part of me because I feel like Montana houses the deepest parts of me.  The woods, the mountains, the dirt roads, the people, and OF COURSE the rivers.... I can't wait to see them again and share them with someone I love so much and all of you!

I am also really excited for the pictures that we will undoubtedly take.  I have been stewing over photoshoot ideas for so long now.  I thought I would go on a hunt of mountain inspired photos and share my findings!

Smooches!

Lullabies of an Insomniac

I have been having so much trouble falling asleep lately, the only benefit being pretty Instagram pictures of the sunrise.  I have been sick for the past few days and I know that I need sleep but I just haven't been tired.  I have amazing friends who have been volunteering to get me whatever I need... too bad you can't buy sleep at the store (without drugging yourself up the yin yang).

One thing that I have found that helps me fall asleep is listening to the radio.  I subscribe to a number of different podcasts that I listen to during workouts, while I'm cleaning my room, and now, while I'm trying to fall asleep. My favorite podcasts are both broadcast on/through National Public Radio.  "This American Life" is the one I have been listening to the longest.  The shows are always hilarious and educational. My parents used to play it on the weekends while all us kids ate breakfast or did chores.

The second podcast and the one I am going to share more in depth about is "All Songs Considered."  This radio program is all about music.  I have really started to enjoy it.  I listened to one of their shows this past week on globalFEST, an international music festival that took place in New York City in January.  The radio program played some beautiful live bits of the shows that took place, all of which were amazing.  NPR also has videos of the shows which I have been checking out for the past hour.  Here are my favorites and wish me luck NOT watching another sunrise!

Enjoy!

The Beginning of Carnaval!

Hey babes! I have been a little M.I.A. because this week is Carnaval in Brazil! It's one of the biggest holidays here and definitely the most internationally famous.  It's a huge party for (officially) about a week, but it goes for practically the whole month of February.  Right now is the peek of the festivities and there are parties and music pretty much everywhere.  Everyone is dressed in ridiculous costumes that remind me a lot of Halloween in the U.S. only it's actually appropriate to wear skimpy clothing because it is SO hot, day and night.

The pictures won't be a huge surprise to anyone who I am friends with on Facebook, but I thought it would be fun to share with the rest of you what I have been up to with my friends!

Day One

Getting Açai which you all know I am addicted to :)
Tracy! The lovely photographer of the festivities!

Day Two

 Herbie!

I hope you are all having a lovely February! Do any of you have Valentine's Day plans with friends or significant others??

Mom's Last Day in Rio

My mom left a couple weeks ago, but here are pictures from her last day here with me in Rio de Janeiro in which she chose to spend the day at the beach.  What a smarty.

Swimming in the ocean here was a big deal for my mom because of some family history.  Her dad, my Grandpa, was a journalist.  He came to Rio to do a story when my mom was 22, the same age I am now.  He went swimming one day, ignoring a sign warning about a strong undertow, and as he was walking out of the surf a huge wave hit him in the back of the neck and broke it.  He was found on the beach later, still alive, and my Grandma was contacted.  The family thought he would survive so only my Grandma came to Rio.  He died in the hospital a few days after she arrived.

My mom said she was making her peace with the ocean here.  She was afraid to go in the water when we first arrived, and by the end she was a little Brazilian fish.  I'm so proud of her.

Some of the pictures are from before she and I went to Salvador.  My mom made a little memorial on the beach for her dad and threw flowers into the ocean for him, and Iemanjá.

For Edmond Dantes Christopherson, a Grandpa I didn't get to meet.
