Little Portland Tour

Hi! Happy Monday!

I was having trouble uploading these pictures but as you can see, it has been sorted.  One of the days I was in Portland my Auntie took me downtown for some exploring. It was actually Cinco de Mayo and there was a fenced off celebration going on but we didn't feel like paying $$$ to get in so we just walked around. I think Portland would be really fun to live in but the weather is so blistery.  It's hard to say, but I think the city may make up for it in lots of other ways.  I love that the Willamette River runs right through town.  It's much bigger than the Clark Fork River that runs through my Missoula, and definitely bigger than Butte Creek. I got a good look at all the bridges that connect the different parts of Portland.  There are twelve total! It looks like a great place to bike and it's less expensive than San Francisco. Plus there's dancing! And family! And babies! And sooo much rain.

I have since returned (on a very long train ride).  I didn't pack my running stuff when I went to visit and I was so antsy to exercise that I have been to the gym almost every day since I've been back (I took Mother's Day off). I love getting to the point where I crave it!

I miss my cousins so much already! This is Lillian and her baby Harlow.  I'm going through baby withdrawals this week for sure!

Rainy Happy Day

Today was a nice easy day.  My Auntie is a nurse/midwife and she worked a shift from six in the morning until four this afternoon.  My cousin Lillian came over with her husband, Sean, and baby, Harlow, during the day and we visited for a while.  Afterwards, I watched Harlow for two hours while Lil and Sean ran errands.  She pooped as soon as they left haha.  It was really nice, even with the poo.  I even got an arm and back workout carrying her around the house to help her fall asleep (which she did :)

I grew up with so many younger siblings that there were always babies in my house, but that was a while ago.  It was nice and somewhat relieving to prove to myself that I can still change a poopy diaper and make a baby fall asleep with no one else around. I was pleasantly surprised with how natural it still feels.

When my Auntie got home we were going to go see The Grand Budapest Hotel, which I already saw with my mom, but the theater was so full we decided to do it another time and went to a wine bar instead.  Auntie Ann really loves her wine and was very dissatisfied with my answer to "what kind of wine do you usually buy?" which was, "whatever is cheap." So, she is on a mission to train my pallet, and I am not complaining.

Ceramics Showcase in Portland

Hey pretty babies!

If you saw my instagram post about going on a roadtrip, now you know where I was headed to: Portland! My auntie Ann and my cousins Lillian and Logan live here and since I've just been bumming around Chico lately I thought it would be nice to come visit with all this free time I have.  There was extra incentive to visit because both Lillian and Logan have had babies in the last year that I hadn't gotten to meet until now! Miles is my cousin Logan's baby and he is ten months old, and Lillian had a little girl named Harlow who is only about four months old.  They are both ridiculously cute and have been so much fun to play with.

Tonight my cousins, their spouses, and some of their friends, and I are all going out to dinner together. It's so nice to finally be considered old enough to go do fun things with my cousins! They are a bit older than me so I was always too little to go off with them when my family visited in the past.  There are some perks to getting older ;)

I took a Brazilian dance class in South East Portland earlier, which was fun.  I'm so grateful that it made me less sore.  I haven't been able to walk correctly since I did an intense leg and butt workout on Wednesday.  Dance healed me!

Here are some photos from a ceramics showcase put on by the Oregon Potters Association on Friday.  I was very impressed and all the potters were very cordial and let me take some pictures of my favorite pieces.  There was also textiles and glass sections that we spent less time in.

Ecuadorian wool tapestries.  The booth owner demonstrated how they naturally dye the wool red by grinding up dried beetles and adding lime.  So cool!
