Rooted Around Me

I lay encompassed by the knots in the fallen tree,
Early in the night,
Starlight perseveres through the city light pollution
To meet my gaping eyes,
Under this fluttering canopy of ancient oaks

The wind sifts the overhead leaves
And the wooden limbs sway in perfect randomness
All around me

I feel like I'm in a petri dish beneath the sky
And this bubble of branches is keeping a globule
Of sweet, fleeting summer air
Just for me,
Me and the stars
